The awareness of the extent of the effect of marital instability on individuals and on the society as well as consequent negative attitude of the youths towards marriage has resulted in increasing interest in ways of controlling and minimizing the destructive experiences (Onwuasonya, 2005). Among the numerous choices which are usually under consideration prior to accepting or proposing for marriage is the educational background and educational attainment of the proposed spouse (male or female). This consideration is usually based on the belief that marrying a spouse with a high level of educational attainment may result to having a high Intelligent Quotient offspring which the marriage may beget in time to come.
